Tapioca Tundra

Sanada-san
'Silhouettes and figures stay close to what he had to say, and one more time the faded dream is saddened by the news, it cannot be a part of me for now it's part of you.'

Not sure what it means but I love it... and I love him :-) face number 8 - Hiroyuki Sanada.

Lady Isrid

Lady Isrid
Face number three for the 29 faces. A little while ago my friend Josephine let me use her as a model for an elf I wanted to paint. Finally got round to doing it.

Caustics

Caustics - Brian Jones

Last week I was invited to join a portrait painting group on Deviant Art. Awesome stuff. This week they set a monochromatic challenge. So here's my attempt at monochromatic utilising my favourite colour, blue - featuring the lovely Brian Jones.

Earl in a blanket

Thomas Earl
Spent a bit of time today finishing face number 22 of the earl. I decided to remove his shirt, and then wished I hadn't because I just don't understand nipples.
For some reason the look on his face makes me think of the chorus line from the Al Green song 'Here I am' - 'Here I am, babe, come and take me.'
Somebody open the window and let some air in ;-)

Back in blue...

Thomas Earl - wip
So... all has been quiet this week on the painting front. Reason being I spent the week abroad, visiting animation studio Fabrique D'Images in Luxembourg. It was a fantastic trip. I could have easily stayed longer :-) Only downside... no painting. But now I'm back... so... onwards with the 29 faces. Work in progress of face number 22. Once again I was drawn to the lovely and adorable Thomas Earl.

Brian Blues

Brian
Face number 20. A return to the lovely Brian. I went on a trip to Oxford again today and my foot hurts. Not that that has any bearing on the painting.

You can call him Al... but he might shoot you

Marshal Breed
On a dark, windy night when you're fighting both the cold and your inner demons a warm poncho goes a long way.
Enjoy :-)

A man of many ponchos

Alexander Aloysius Breed
Seeing as I was working on a painting of the long suffering Earl yesterday, it seemed only right to finish the weekend with a little wip of the marshal who is competing for the affections of the Earl's sweetheart.
The lawman himself is almost as long suffering as the Earl, but for slightly different reasons. After his family was murdered and the culprit escaped he completely lost his rag, handed in his badge and went off on his own personal vendetta... aaand it kinda just went downhill from there until eventually he fell in with a very wrong crowd and got himself shot. But luckily for him a young lady found him, strapped him to a horse, took him home and patched him up. And in spite of him being both grumpy and squinty they ended up getting along very well indeed, much to the Earl's chagrin.

I have attempted the lawman a fair few times by now, and I'm still struggling to get him just right. One of the reasons being that I kept changing my mind about his age. Seeing as he is inspired by the ever fabulous actor Anthony Zerbe my DVD collection has grown considerably since that fatal afternoon where I first came across him in Rooster Cogburn to a point where I've even invested in a box set of season 11 of Murder she wrote because he was in one of the episodes. No matter what he does he always seem to steal the show :-) Also, this is the first time I have shared the lawman's name with anyone. If anyone out there is a fellow Zerbe admirer his middle and surname should ring some bells ;-)

Dynamite with a laser beam...

Raynfalg y Rhinwyr
Yes, so the post title isn't really related to the image, except I was listening to 'Killer Queen' while I was painting.
This is another one of Mr Magic - Raynfalg the visually impaired sorcerer. My first painting for 2014, finished on my last evening on hols in Denmark... The little bamboo gone done well.
Enjoy :-D

Getting to knooow yooou!

Mr P - wip
Just a little painting to get me adjusted. I've brought my Bamboo with me on Christmas hols and it handles a bit differently to my Intuos 4 that I use at home. Also, it makes the most infuriating scratching noise when the pen moves across the tablet. But it's definitively better than having no pen and tablet. Work in progress:-)
And hey! Merry Christmas everyone!

The Blues...

Brian
The noises in my ears are now so persistent that I find it extremely difficult to abstract from them. It's very annoying. Anyhoo... finally finished this one of Brian. It's all gone decidedly blue.
Enjoy:-)

Sorcery at Night

Raynfalg - Rhinwyr
The second one of Raynfalg done. It's night time... and according to my brother, Rayn is brooding in the dark. He wasn't meant to be... but my brother has spoken. So... keep on brooding Mr Magic.
Enjoy:-)

Rayn in progress

Rayn - wip
Well, the holidays are over. Once again painting time is limited to late nights and weekends. But here's a little work in progress of another one of Raynfalg. And now I must sleep.
Hope you likey:-)

Raynfalg - Rhinwyr

Raynfalg - Rhinwyr
One visually impaired sorcerer - done!
Enjoy:-)

Spellbound...

Raynfalg - Sorcerer
Work in progress of Raynfalg, one of the sorcerers from my middle earth style story. Rayn almost lost his eyesight in a fight when he was very young. Though he can still see his eyes are extremely sensitive to light, hence the emo-esque fringe and the large, peaked hood on his cloak - think Ass Creed style hood;-)
Hope you like him.

Anger management...

Square
Everything I wanted to do tonight kept going wrong. So I made this... which wasn't what I was going to do at all... just to confound whatever power it was that kept tripping me up. Don't know what it is, not sure if I like it... but it's something, and I feel slightly less aggravated... slightly.

Moerk Daag - Necromancer

Moerk Daag - Necromancer
My word, I finished a painting while it's still light outside - Go figure it would be a painting of a character with a name like that (Yep, his name means something in Danish... give or take a bit of artistic license in the spelling department)... Not half bad this holidaying lark. I could get used to it.

Moerk Daag - Necromancer with a sunny disposition

Moerk Daag - wip
So here's a wip of Moerk Dag, necromancer with a sunny disposition... and he'll need it too since he's been imprisoned inside a dragon for over a decade and still haven't figured out a way to get out. Moerk is the baddie in a little story I made up involving dragons, wizards, sorcerers, elfs, dwarfs, nasty monsters and generally lots of middle earthy kinda things. And to make me feel a bit better about Thorin and nephews croaking it in the Hobbit, in my story no dwarfs die - at least not permanently... and one of them even gets the girl in the end... Yes I know that the moral of the Hobbit and the journey of the characters rather require the the ending that it has... I get it... But I'm a sucker for happy endings... In my story the dwarfs live... Look at all the majestic f***s I give.

Don't come around here no more...

Thomas Earl
So... as mentioned earlier, there was a reason I chose to backtrack a bit and paint the Earl in his late teens. The Earl's father was a really nasty piece of work, particularly when he'd been drinking. He never did like his oldest son much. Thought he was a girlie looking push-over, and so had a habit of regularly pushing him over... with his fists. Luckily he stepped out onto rail tracks in in a drunken stupor, right in front of a train. Nothing left but his shoes. 'All is well that ends well' as the Earl likes to point out.

I've wanted to practice bruises and such for a while so the Earl's troubled childhood seemed like a good place to start.
Here he is below, sans injuries. See, it's all just done with a Wacom pen;-)
