All of the faces!

So, here are all the faces I did for 29 Faces, September 2016... even if it did take me until December to finish :-) Thought I'd make a change from the usual collage and do a little slideshow video... although, I may do the collage as well... Enjoy :-)

Pink, it's like red...

Micky
... but not quite.
Put the finishing touches on face number 28... and yes, I quoted Pink by Aerosmith... seemed appropriate... Little Micky loves his pinks :-)

Think pink

Micky
What have we here? Could it be? Yes! It's face number 29! Signing off this batch of the 29 Faces with another painting of little Micky, embracing 80ies fashion and rocking the neons :-)

Baby it's cold outside

Micky
No painting last week as I was in the Czech Republic with work... it was very cold... But I'm back home now... so here is a wip of little Micky sporting a puffer jacket for face number 27 :-)

Stars and tie-dye

Micky
'Baaaaby! Now that I've found you I can't let you go! I'll build my world around you!'
Nothing like a bit of Foundations on a Sunday evening :-)

Face number 25 done -  my favourite cherub, Michael Carmine.

Spun sugar

Micky
I enjoyed the candy floss hair in the previous painting so much, I decided to do another one. Micky with his locks a-flowing - face number 24 done.

Sunday, 6 November 2016

Won't go away...

Micky
'Now you've left a trace in hearts and time and space.'

Well, in my heart certainly... I was listening to 'Won't Go Away' with The Feeling while painting this. Seemed very appropriate somehow :-)
Face number 23 - Michael Carmine with his hair out of the ponytail for once :-)

Dear future husband...

Micky
... if you can smile like that, you'll go from future to current pretty darn quick ;-)
It's also a really catchy song by Meghan Trainor that my dancing instructor taught us some really snazzy moves to last week :-)
Face number 21 done. Micky again.

Halo

Micky
Today... or rather yesterday, as it's gone midnight here in my neck of the woods... it was exactly 27 years ago that he passed away. And oh how I wish, I really wish that he hadn't.
Face number 18 - Michael Carmine, 06/03/1959 - 14/10/1989. <3

Big brown eyes

Micky
Note to self... Do NOT look into his big brown eyes... it'll only end in tears.
Face number 17 done... the beautiful Michael Carmine.
Yes, I've been staring into his big brown eeeyyyys! And for the record why would you want to wish for the object of your desire to perspire to the point of complete dehydration? I love the song though :-)

Continuing of the heart pangs

Micky

Face number 17 in progress. Mr. Carmine again. This fella's really gotten under my skin... and it bloody well hurts.

Little heart ache

Micky
Occasionally you discover something that just breaks your heart a little bit. Earlier this week I found out that this delightful fella had not only passed away, but passed away back in 1989 at the age of 30 from AIDS related heart failure.
Having a heart condition myself it always knocks me sideways a bit when I hear of people dying young due to heart problems. It's like losing a brother in arms in a way. Well, Mr. Carmine, I've certainly found a place for you in my leaky heart. :-)

A change of seasons

Precious Stones
Autumn is here! Aw yiiissss! Grab your coats and hats.... Precious has ;-) A wrapped up Mr Stones for face number 13. Somewhat out of season I had Nina Simone's version of Here Comes the Sun on repeat while I was painting this. Sorry inktober... I've got more faces to do ;-)

Saturday, 1 October 2016

Son... just don't!

Precious
In a state of exhaustion I have fallen asleep in front of the monitor at night doing battle with big blue eyes, poofy lips and protruding collar bones. How dare you Mr. Weller! How very dare you!
The 29 faces is officially over with the end of September... this is face number 12 - another one of Precious the pilot. But I may just keep going.

Saturday, 24 September 2016

Chuck

Chuck Connors
A large name for a large man - Kevin Joseph Aloysius “Chuck” Connors. Face number 11.

Friday, 23 September 2016

Precious little progress

Precious Stones
This week I have been tired... really... really... tired. So no painting until now. Last time I attempted this precocious scarecrow I had the flu... so it seemed about time to try again. Cargo pilot Larimar Feldspar Stones - but everyone just calls him Precious. I saw Robocop for the first time not long after I came up with this fella, so his face just gravitated towards Peter Weller... but with Tom Petty kinda hair. It made sense at the time ;-)

Fancying the bass player

Lawrence
Back to my Western for face number 6 - Lawrence Ramiro Sánchez. Brilliant with numbers, excellent sharpshooter and a mean double bass player. Based on Benicio del Toro.

Friday, 9 September 2016

Glow

Elliott
I'm going to try to keep everything more sketchy from now on, and then revisit later if I fancy, otherwise I'll just get way to far behind. Face number 5 - Elliott.

Thursday, 8 September 2016

Blondie

The Earl
Face number 4 for the 29 faces. Another character from my Western - the Earl as a young man. Based on Tom Petty :-) Not finished yet... but I'm tired and must sleep now.

Tuesday, 6 September 2016

Mom's the word

Mom
Number 3 for the 29 faces. Spent too long faffing around with the colour of the suit. Anyhoo. Continuing with the cowboy theme, here's another fella from my Western.
Maxwell Oliver Macrae, aka Maxo - or 'mom' to his friends - a tailor with a super sunny disposition and excellent dance moves. How could I not base him on Don O'Conner :-)

Sunday, 4 September 2016

What's my name?

Francis Urlaub, DDS
One of my best friends asked if he could have a cameo in the Western I'm writing... how could I resist ? :-)
Number 2 for the 29 faces... Doctor Francis Urlaub.
A gambler and dentist with specialty in orthodontics, Doctor Urlaub can usually be found on the large gambling river boats. Though modest with his bets he has been known to throw in his supply of silver and gold tooth fillings as collateral when his cash flow is low. A man of small physical stature but extremely large on charm, he is extremely well-spoken and renowned for his superbly groomed and luxuriant beard.

If you'll be my bodyguard...

Al
The 29 faces are back... wohooo! I'm so excited :-) Let's see how many months it's going to take me this time ;-)
Here's the first face... my cowboy, Al. Based on Anthony Zerbe whom I love and adore :-) I know it's officially the 2nd now... but I started this at 10 pm... so I count it as September 1st :-)

Wednesday, 31 August 2016

Ben Hur

Detective Alex Tardio
'Detective Alex Tardio... 19th Precinct... Robbery.'

Let's just say it was instant infatuation on my part. And just when I thought I couldn't love William Fitchner any more.Also... this may just be my first venture into pastels.

Monday, 29 August 2016

Have you hugged your Hiroyuki today?

Yudaina
I was going to do something completely different last evening when I suddenly thought of Hiroyuki Sanada... I do that a lot... so here's a little sketch from last night of Yudaina :-)

Friday, 26 August 2016

Life's little mysteries

Sherlock
I don't think he will ever cease to fascinate me :-)
Makes me think of that Lovin' Spoonful song... somewhat paraphrased.

'And he is still a mystery to me, I thought I'd grow up gracefully, I'd understand him thoroughly... but he's a mystery to me.'

Sparkly sporran

Tirion of Awel Glyn

Tirion
It's done... it's finally, finally done... man that took ages... I just couldn't decide what to do with the belt... That's all it was... the blinkin' belt. So I figured... if in doubt... add some bling ;-) Lord Tirion of Awel Glyn based as always on magical Mansai Nomura :-) <3

Sunday, 7 August 2016

Lights out

Yudaina - wip
So thanks to one of the lovely ladies in the 29 faces group mentioning my favourite subject... well I just kinda had to ;-) Still gotta a few finishing touches to do, but here's a pre for now. A young Yudaina brooding in the dark... brooding... brooding.... broooding ;-) Based of course on my most favourite of favourites - Hiroyuki Sanada.

Friday, 5 August 2016

William

William
So after I had been to see Independance Day 2 my brother phoned and in conversation said 'Don't you just love that guy who got sworn in as president in the end?' Why yes... yes I do. Also, I've wanted to paint him for ages. The oh-so-very-handsome William Fitchner <3

Pectoralis major-ly problematic

Tirion
Made myself finish this today... I hate painting chests... I mean, I love chests, they're beautiful... but they're so difficult to paint, trying to hint at the bone structure underneath without overdoing it. Also... I kept the cape. I'm calling this one of Tirion done. As always based on magical Mansai Nomura :-)

Monday, 1 August 2016

Shiny satin

Tirion - wip
Tirion again... because I can ;-) And because I love Mansai Nomura's face :-) Not quite finished... also... not sure about the cape... so a wip for now.

Saturday, 23 July 2016

Taller than you...

Tirion
Why finish a painting when you can start another one? Another one of Tirion - which I may or may not work on some more later ;-) based on the one and only Mansai Nomura ;-)

Monday, 11 July 2016

Watcha lookin' at?

Tirion
Gave his lordship a little haircut... I do like elves with short hair. Tirion again, as always based on magical Mansai Nomura :-)

Sunday, 10 July 2016

Abracadabra I wanna reach out and grab ya...

Hands of Healing
I wanted to relax with a bit of elf painting. I settled on another one of Tirion... this time featuring his hands! Which were rather annoying to paint, so that was the relaxation part straight out the window, but hey. Tirion comes from a family of healers... I've based him on a Japanese Kyogen actor, the absolutely magical and graceful Mansai Nomura, who also happens to have the most beautiful an expressive hands - perfect as reference for the healing hands of elf lord Tirion :-)

Sunday, 3 July 2016

Power napping

Yudaina - meditating
Another sketch of my nomad king Yudaina, as always based on the holder of my heart Hiroyuki Sanada.

Sunday, 26 June 2016

Sleeping King

Yudaina
Another one of Yudaina who seems to have become my June guy of choice :-) I'm suffering really badly from hay fever at the moment and the tablets are making me really sleepy, so it seemed appropriate to have one of the nomad King sleeping ;-) As always based on beautiful Hiroyuki Sanada <3

Saturday, 18 June 2016

Juuuune

Yudaina
Another guy for June. This time it's a somewhat pensive Yudaina - as always based on Hiroyuki Sanada whom I love an adore :-)

Friday, 10 June 2016

It's June guys!

Caleon
I have now finally finished my 29 faces all the way back from Feb... However, I am really not happy with quite a few of them... one so much so I have decided to remove it from my 29 faces... so I'm back to 28 again. Which brings me to this fella... this is Caleon, based on beautiful Cillian Murphy, and he is number 29... he is also the first of my 'June guys'. So there :-)
